So I was supposed to run a steady 3 or 4 miles today. I was looking forward to the idea of running, but was scared I might get dehydrated because of the heat. Tuesday, I didn’t pay any attention to the temperature when I headed out the door at 5PM – and ended up horribly dehydrated half-way through my run and dragged myself back home. And since I was 20 minutes late getting out of the office (my fault – I shouldn’t have tried to finish something up), I figured I’ll go when it’s cooler, after dinner.
Once I got out there, I felt the freedom of the cool air flowing around my body, and with DJ Tiesto’s club life podcast in my ears, I just wanted to run run run fast fast fast and so I did. As I noted the fact that I was running far too fast to sustain the pace for the scheduled 3-4 miles, I decided on the spot to make this a shorter fartlek workout. So I ran faster and then slower, and then a little faster and a little faster and then really really fast and then slower again. It was fun. It felt great. Good run! Good times!
